| The fishing in and around Cape Ann continues to be very good. Solid numbers of stripers and blues can be had along the Rockport shoreline, out on the “flat ground” and around Thatcher, Milk, and Straitsmouth Islands. Captain Allen Smith and I had the pleasure of guiding a “fishing family” on Wednesday and Friday this week. Harry, Geri, Reid, Miriam and Christy all caught some excellent stripers using a chum and chunk technique. On Friday, Harry and Reid had a great time catching stripers and bluefish. Harry hooked a couple of nice stripers on the fly and Reid managed a large bluefish while trolling a tube and worm combo out on the “flat ground”. Captain Allen and I look forward to fishing with them all in the future. Captain Al reports that the striper fishing in and around the Merrimack continues to be good. The fish tend to move up onto the flats on the rising tide and are dropping back out to the ocean water rather quickly on the dropping tide. He also reports that the commercial striper fisherman are catching good numbers of hefty stripers a mile or so off the Gloucester breakwater. We fully expect the Cape Ann fishing for blues and stripers to get better throughout the month of July. We should continue to see an increasing number of fish along the shore and out and around the area islands.
