| I didn't get out on the water this week as often as previous weeks, between the weather and other obligations. However, the days that I did fish, we were able to find some good action. On Friday and Saturday there were sporadic blitzes all day at Pebble beach in Rockport. The fish varied from little snapper blues, to medium blues, schoolies, and some really nice bass mixed in. They were primarily hitting peanut bunker, but we also saw them feeding on small brine shrimp. On Sunday, my friend Bart got into a major Bluefish feed off of Eastern Point in Gloucester.
On the Tuna front, I got out on Tuesday with Skip. We managed one fish trolling, but saw little action, despite marking a ton of bait. On Sunday, I got out again, and we took one fish on a popper, and landed another trolling. The fish were in fairly small schools, and stayed in the same general area all day. Again, I saw huge amounts of bait on the sounder.
The next couple of weeks should continue to be good. The leader chomping, fly stealing, bluefish should begin moving on, being replaced with large schools of hungry migrating bass. This can be for an excellent opportunity to catch some really large stripers. Big fish feeding hard on peanut bunker often make mistakes. They will hit a well placed fly, that at other times, they would ignore.
