| The striper fishing last week continued to be very good at Candy House. Anglers fishing from the grassy bank on the rising tide did well as did the anglers fishing the dropping tide out on the sandbar. Fish were taken on a variety of light tackle options; flies, soft plastics and top water plugs. The pogies are still there and are drawing some larger stripers into Little River. I heard one report of a 39 inch fish taken on the fly. Most of the fish that we saw and caught were in the 20 to 30 inch class. My nephew Jeff and his 3 year old son were out on Little River in their Kayak and landed a real nice 30 inch striper on the fly (check the photo below). We expect the good fishing to continue at Candy House for a few more weeks. There was considerable bait activity along the ocean side last week from Dog Bar on up the coast to Castle Neck, so it might be a good time to get out to the surf and rocks for a look see. Striper reports from the Merrimack River are also very good. Substantial numbers of stripers have invaded the estuary and some very large fish have moved up river chasing river herring all the way to the first dam in Lawrence. Some reports of 40+ inch stripers taken on plugs and cut bait. The anglers out on Joppa are hooking up good numbers and quality as well. We will begin fishing there next week and start providing first hand info in June.
![]() ![]() The shad fishing at Rocks Village is spotty at best. The consistent shad fishing is happening up at the Lawrence Dam. I fished there a few times last week with reasonable success. The local anglers tell me that the shad run is yet to peak so if you are interested in catching shad, expect good fishing to continue up there for several more weeks to come. And don’t be surprised if you hook up a quality striper or Atlantic salmon (a 12 pound salmon was landed there last week). Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions about fishing up at Lawrence for shad or stripers.
