The hit or miss action around Cape Ann continued for most of last week, with the action slow early in the week and at mid week. But by Friday the action heated up a bit with stripers and blues from Andrews point on down to Good Harbor. Jona and Adam (aka. Dr Slug-Go and JoJo the Fly-guy) worked very hard all day and were rewarded with several nice stripers including two keeper sized fish (and a couple of bit-off Slug-Go’s by blues). They took about a dozen stripers (and several other strikes each) on 7 inch white Slug-Go’s and flies. We found the fishing best in the morning with the clouds and light fog providing dim sunlight that encouraged the stripers. By afternoon the sun was out of the clouds and bright so we concentrated on fishing the surf wash tight to shore with reasonable success. An all around good day fishing considering how slow the action had been earlier in the week. ![]() On Saturday I had the pleasure of having Sarah, Chris and Ryan out fishing with me. Sarah had arranged the trip for the guys and came along to encourage them to catch stripers and blues. Chris and Ryan had limited saltwater fishing experience and so I decided to introduce them both to the hot action that “Tube-n Worm trolling" could provide. We left the dock at sunrise and headed down to Pebble Beach and set up shop. After a bit of instruction with the gear, we began trolling tight to the beach and rocks. No luck there so we headed over to Milk Is. and worked the spit and west facing cove, again with no luck. But the luck changed “big time” as I turned the boat up the southeast shore. Before I could say “this is a great spot to find big stripers” when Chris’ rod pounded and bent like a twig. Chris held on while the striper stripped off 100 feet of line. Chris slowly got the fish under control and worked her back to the boat. I lip landed the big striper and measured her up at 36 inches at just about 20 pounds. We snapped off a few pictures, revived and released her. Not bad for the first fish of the day. We fished Milk for another hour or so landing a few more smaller stripers and Ryan’s first bluefish before making our way down to Good Harbor. Good Harbor is where we found the great action! For the next two hours the guys enjoyed non-stop action popping fish after fish with several double headers thrown in for excitement. We landed several dozen stripers ranging in size from 24 to 29 inches before calling it a morning and headed back to the dock. Lots of good memories of a day on the water at Cape Ann.
![]() Porter B got into a big surface feed Saturday morning at Diamond Cove in Annisquam with lots of bass in tight to shore and blues a bit further off. Most of the 20 or so fish landed were sized from 22 to 30 inches. He returned to Diamond Cove Sunday morning and the stripers/blues had left with the bait. Most of the hot tuna action remains to the south at Stellwagon with very good early morning action just about each day. Hopefully the action will begin to shift closer to Cape Ann over the next few weeks.
