Fishing Reports
October 6, 2008

The absolutely awful weather last weekend left the near shore water stained and sour from the heavy rains and with super large ocean swells from the TS and hurricane that past us to the east. Both of which took a toll on what was some decent fishing that we had enjoyed over the previous two weeks. The fishing began to improve somewhat toward the end of last week, with the shore guys getting into a few bigger bass over the w/e.

The current fall pattern is showing little sign of improvement with the summer resident fish now moving off the structure in search of migrating baitfish. The lack of substantial baitfish is going to determine the quality of the fall run. So far, we have not seen any significant bait blitzes or even a sustained number of bluefish moving through Cape Ann. Similar reports from points to our north are about the same. The bigger stripers that have shown up do not appear to be holding due to the lack of baitfish. Where the baitfishes are and whether or not they come into our waters remains a mystery. The weather forecast calls for good conditions throughout most of the week, so we’ll be out fishing more and hopefully we’ll see some sign of baitfish.

Eric enjoyed catching a few nice stripers last week. This 31 incher fell for a white slug-go.

Julian from the UK caught a few very nice "proper caught" (on the fly) stripers last Saturday afternoon.
