It appears that the fall fishing has fizzled since the storm of two weeks ago. We have not seen anything of the typical fall blitzes of past seasons, only a few small and short lived bait feeds here and there at different times of day. I fished everyday last week with two fine anglers from the UK, Phil and Ross. We hit it hard every morning (before dawn) and afternoon (till dark) with only a few stripers each day for our efforts. I have not seen even one bluefish inshore for over two weeks, even though a good amount of bait has made its way inshore. The shore anglers have not faired any better than the boat anglers with a few hook-ups each morning. The lack of stripers and bluefish is disturbing to say the least; we should be having a great fall blitz right about now. Reports from north of here are not encouraging. I have heard reports that the striper fishing south of here is reasonable, but not great. So are we looking at the end of the 2008 season? We’ll see what happens throughout this week. On the super side, the offshore bluefin tuna angling continues real hot at Stellwagon. There is still tons of bait out there; sandeels and halfbeaks. We got out there last Friday aboard the Hunter 3 and hooked up two nice fish, successfully landing a 56 inch brute. Ross from the UK battled the tuna into submission in just shy of thirty minutes. It was his first ever bluefin. (A real good end to a week fishing the Cape Ann waters)
