Final Weekly report on October 30th
| October 20, 2008 | |
The striper fishing continues to be less than impressive around Cape Ann. We had a few fish most everyday, but we worked hard for them. My personal best day was Friday morning, landing 6 stripers, 4 schoolies and 2 fish of 34 and 36 inches, all at daybreak on flies. Best bite was by far at first light with only one other decent fish caught late morning. The shore guys worked hard every morning with not much reward. Porter B managed a solid 43 inch 34 pounder on Tuesday morning. We have yet to see a substantial bait blitz although I have spotted (on my electronics) pods of baitfish from Sandy Bay, down-coast to Good Harbor. If there is any good news, it is that several good feeds have happened to the north at Plum Island and up river on the Salisbury flat. Capt Al Montello found a pod of large stripers crashing Shad and he landed several solid bass from 34 inches to a brute of 47 inches by 38 pounds. Other anglers have caught nice bass surfcasting along the beachfront. The bottom line is we may yet have some numbers of stripers to pass by next week or even later as was the case last fall.
